Feed & Seed Co.’s Farm to School program is more than just a meal plan, it’s a movement to connect students with fresh, locally grown food while supporting the farmers who cultivate it. Every school lunch served through our program is a chance to teach healthy habits, spark curiosity about agriculture, and foster a deeper connection between students and the communities they live in.

From leafy greens to seasonal fruits, every bite comes from farms just down the road. Our goal is to make nutritious meals accessible to all students, regardless of background, while providing local farmers with a dependable market for their harvests. Together, we’re building a food system that nourishes both children and communities.

WHO WE ARE

FEED AND SEED SC.

Connecting SChools with Local Farms

Feed & Seed Co.’s Farm to School program is designed to bring the freshest, locally grown food directly into Greenville classrooms. By integrating seasonal fruits, vegetables, and value-added products into school meal programs, students gain access to healthier, more nutritious meals while developing an appreciation for the food that fuels them.

At the same time, this program helps create consistent and predictable revenue opportunities for local farmers. By establishing reliable demand from schools, farmers can plan their crops, diversify production, and grow their businesses with confidence. These partnerships also encourage the cultivation of new crops and products that meet both educational and nutritional needs, strengthening the resilience of South Carolina’s agricultural sector.

Beyond immediate meals and sales, Farm to School builds long-term institutional markets for local agriculture. Schools become dependable partners in the regional food system, fostering connections that benefit farmers, students, and the community alike. Through this program, Feed & Seed Co. is helping to create a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable local food ecosystem—one school lunch at a time.

Project Scales for Rural School Systems is an initiative designed to help small or rural schools implement programs like Farm to School efficiently and sustainably. Rural schools often face challenges such as limited budgets, fewer staff, and difficulties accessing fresh local food consistently. Project Scales provides tools, resources, and frameworks to overcome these challenges so that rural districts can successfully integrate local farm products into their meal programs.

How Feed & Seed Supports Farmers

Feed & Seed Co. provides farmers with the tools, infrastructure, and support they need to thrive in institutional and wholesale markets. By offering aggregation and distribution pathways, we reduce logistical barriers, ensuring that local farm products can reach schools, markets, and community organizations efficiently. Our team also assists farmers in maintaining compliance with food safety and quality standards, including guidance toward Harmonized GAP certification, helping them meet rigorous industry requirements.

A cornerstone of this support is our GAP-certified Wash & Pack Room, a dedicated post-harvest processing facility designed to handle high volumes of fresh fruits and vegetables safely, efficiently, and consistently. This facility allows for streamlined washing, sorting, and packing of produce, meeting best practices and rigorous food handling standards. Farmers benefit from direct partnerships with Feed & Seed, where their products are processed in our certified facility and prepared for sale to schools, markets, and wholesale purchasers. This system not only increases farm revenue but also expands access to high-quality, locally grown produce across the region.

Amenities in our Wash & Pack Room include:
